1) Do you agree with James Murdoch that the BBC should not be allowed to provide free news online? In my opinion i think that it should be free online because as the audience we can gain access to the news with our smartphones for example which means that if BBC was not free consumers are going to be able to access new through other websites.
2) Read this blog on the Times paywall three years on (note this is the UK Times - not the New York Times!)
3) Was Rupert Murdoch right to put his news content (The Times, The Sunday Times) behind a paywall? within the article it sates "As I wrote on The science of subscriptions" in December, you only reach profit through subscriptions when you've deducted the cost of acquiring and retaining users. Three years on, The Times should be starting to see the benefits of their toil now."
4) Choose two comments from below the Times paywall article - one that argues in favour of the paywall and one that argues against. Copy a quote from each and explain which YOU agree with and why.
"I fear that era of being subsidised is coming to an end. The separation of the two companies means that the newspapers will form a bigger and more exposed element in the new News Corp" this suggest that there is an upcoming brand new ear that going to begin which could be both negative but also positive because with the NDM growing at such a fast pace it means that news corp need to ensure that they change with their audience.
5) Read this article from the Media Briefing on the continuing decline of the newspaper industry.
6) Why do you think the Evening Standard has bucked the trend and increased circulation and profit in the last two years? Because of the fact that they are going their readers what they want to see to ensure that they attain good readership furthermore from the graphs that its changed.
7) Is there any hope for the newspaper industry or will it eventually die out? Provide a detailed response to this question explaining and justifying your opinion. Overall because of the fact that there are too many newspapers chasing too few readers. however one solution is for newspapers to merge. And If newspapers do merger and done intelligently, the vast majority of readers of both newspapers can be retained by the new title, giving maybe an extra decade or more of profitability and viability.
